Music
Join in with all your heart, soul, mind and strength . . . don't hold back
Sing from your toes.  Pray with your mind.  Worship the Eternal Creator from your soul.  It's not about perfect music; it's about joining the holy sound of a community honestly learning what it means to follow their Creator.

WHY WE SING:

A group of people singing together is odd.  It really is.  Other than a baseball game or birthday party, people don't  stand around and sing.  But we do every Sunday at church.  Why?  For starters it is a part of our history and tradition.  We come from a long line of people who sing to and about God.  From King David to Martin Luther to Bono, men and women have often expressed their faith, whether in painful cries or through gushing praise, with singing.  The reasons behind this aren't always clear, but the power of music is undeniable.  It seems to tap into deeper and more honest places than words alone ever could.  It has been said that music is the language of the soul.  We believe it.

Get Involved

The First Baptist choirs and the worship team, along with First Baptist at large, are continually growing and changing in our attempts to provide people with intimate and authentic encounters with God.

Each Sunday, one of our 5 choirs sings (or rings) during the worship service. Our music is joyful, inspiring, and spiritual. It is Bach, Handel, and Mozart. It is the gospel hymns of Fanny Crosby and William Bradbury. It is the traditional hymns of Charles Wesley and Isaac Watts. And it is spiritual songs from Twila Paris, Matt Redman, Michael W. Smith, and other contemporary Christian songwriters.

From age 4 to adult, our Ministry of Music is here for you!
  • The 4-6 year old Cherubs bring broad smiles to adult faces.
  • The 2nd-5th grade Choristers clearly sing the lyrics of joyful songs with simple, but profound messages.
  • The 6th-12th grade Youth Choir opens worship once a month, leading us in contemporary songs.
  • The 9th grade-adult Chancel Choir leads worship most Sundays with music that touches the entire congregation.
  • The youth-adult Chancel Ringers also give a special "tintinnabulation" to our worship services about seven times a year.
The church also hosts Carols in the Round, an annual Christmas concert presented by the Westfield Chorale.   The Westfield Chorale unites the talents of area high school students and alumni, under the direction of Bill Mathews, our Minister of Music.
